David Hargreaves (born 2nd February 1940 in New Mills, Derbyshire) appeared on Coronation Street in October 1977 as Bob Birchall, the domineering father of Suzie Birchall.

Educated at Glossop Grammar School, he trained to be a science teacher and worked as a supply teacher at Rising Hill Comprehensive School in Islington, London prior to moving to a career in acting.

His other credits include roles in The Last Man Out, Z Cars, The Wars of the Roses, Crossroads, The Expert, Callan, The Roads to Freedom, Softly Softly: Task Force, The Visitors, Crown Court, Headmaster, The XYY Man, Strangers, Juliet Bravo, Sorry I'm a Stranger Here Myself, The Practice, Truckers, Casualty, Making Out, Heartbeat, The Bill, Earthfasts, The Ruth Rendell Mysteries, Peak Practice, Beck, Bugs, Bloomin' Marvellous, Merseybeat, This Country, Traitors, Fleabag, Warren, Small Town Politics and The Flatshare, along with the regular role of Derek Owen in the short-lived Granada Television soap opera Albion Market from 1985 to 1986.

On stage, he appeared in productions of Henry VI, Edward IV, Richard III, Oedipus Rex, The Lower-Middle Class Wedding Party, Romeo and Juliet, King Lear, The Pilate Workshop and The Taming of the Shrew for the Royal Shakespeare Company. Other works include The Crucible, Mother Courage and her Children, Love for Love, Juno and the Paycock, A Flea in Her Ear, The Storm, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead, The Roaring Girl, Twelfth Night, The Fire Raisers, The Changing Room, The Four Alice Bakers, The Hypochondriac and Manor.
