David Ian Calder (born 1st August 1946 in Portsmouth) appeared on Coronation Street in both January 1978 and January 1979 as Radio Weatherfield reporter, Ted Thomas.

He trained at the Old Vic Theatre School and his career began as a stage hand at Chichester Festival Theatre.

In a career spanning over five decades, he is probably best known for his role as Dr. Robert Bramwell in the period drama Bramwell from 1995 to 1997. His other television credits include roles in Merry-Go-Round, Sentimental Education, Crown Court, Bognor, Bread or Blood, Get Lost!, Widows, Mitch, Wynne and Penkovsky, That Uncertain Feeling, Star Cops, Nice Work, Sleepers, Friday on My Mind, Cracker, Drovers' Gold, Holding On, Family, The Last Enemy, Titanic, The Wrong Mans, The Moonstone, Motherland, The Lovecraft Investigations and Time.

Film roles include Superman, All the Fun of the Fair, Moonlighting, Defence of the Realm, American Friends, Hollow Reed, The World Is Not Enough, Mr In-Between, Goya's Ghosts, The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, United, Rush, Queen of the Desert, The Lost City of Z and The Hatton Garden Job.

On stage, he appeared in productions of The Merchant of Venice, Henry V, Much Ado About Nothing, The Duchess of Malfi, Othello, Toad of Toad Hall, The Lower Depths, The Island of the Mighty, Trilogy of Reunions, The Maple Tree Game, The Plain Dealer, Henry VI, Edward IV, Twelfth Night, Moscow Gold, The Pretenders, King Lear, Moby Dick, The Tempest and Dr Dell for the Royal Shakespeare Company.
