Radio's Listen with Mother, a role she fulfilled for twenty-one years beginning in 1950, Daphne Oxenford (31st October 1919 – 21st December 2012) played Esther Hayes in Coronation Street from 1960 (making her debut in Episode 2) until 1963 and then returning for guest appearances in 1971 and 1972 when she was last seen at the wedding of Ernest Bishop to Emily Nugent. Born in 1920 she continues to act, appearing in one of Big Finish Productions Sapphire and Steel audio plays and an episode of Midsummer Murders in recent years. She passed away on the 21st December 2012 aged 93.
