Daniel Grimshaw and his family were the first tenants of 1 Coronation Street. Daniel moved into the house along with his parents Percy and Aggie in August 1902 when Daniel was nineteen.
Like his father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Daniel was employed at the Weatherfield Main Colliery. He had his first sexual experience aged twenty courtesy of his father, who paid 35-year-old barmaid Moll Hardwick to break him into the adult world. He then fell for Annie Rogers, whose house in Mawdsley Street backed onto No.1. Charlie Corbishley also had his eye on Annie until Daniel brawled with him in the back yard of the Rover's Return and pushed him through a window. Daniel and Annie got engaged and although their courtship survived an attempt by Percy to split them up by arranging for Annie to catch Daniel in Moll's arms, it ended in tragedy when Daniel was killed in a mine disaster in 1906.
- Daniel first appeared in Daran Little and Bill Hill's "Weatherfield Life", published in 1992. Other information is derived from Little's follow-up book, "Around the Coronation Street Houses".
