The Court Clerk was a member of the courtroom staff when Len Fairclough and Ray Langton appeared over Fairclough and Langton's non-payment of a £204.60 VAT bill after doing a job for Weatherfield Plastics. The case was adjourned when Jerry Booth paid the amount in full, fearing that Len and Ray would go to jail and the firm would close down. This fact was announced to Len and Ray after a short recess, during which the men tried to find out from the clerk what was going on. The man only told them that there had been a development and they would be told more in due course.
