Storylines
January
- The Platts are delighted to see Bethany Platt back. On their way to a celebratory meal, Daisy Midgeley points out the girl to Jenny Connor, who tells her who she is. Everyone thus find out that she wasted no time in falling back into Daniel Osbourne's bed. Daisy tries to make up with him, but he rejects her, saying he's had enough of her drama. Bethany is in touch with someone back in London, who she begs to give her another chance. Badly overdrawn, she agrees to write an article for Chit-Chat magazine and finds a suitable subject when Beth Sutherland drops hints about Daisy catfishing Ryan Connor.
- Sarah and Adam Barlow's attempt at reconciliation fails when Damon Hay returns to the area, intent on revenging himself upon Adam. He has him kidnapped and intends to kill him but is unable to go through with the act. He finds out from Sarah that she miscarried their baby and that Adam deleted a message that Damon left for Sarah before his previous departure. Sarah still has obvious feelings for him. Damon asks for his bistro investment money back and despite Dee-Dee Bailey’s warnings, Ed Bailey agrees to work with Damon on renovating a new bar. Damon visits half-brother Harvey Gaskell in jail who orders him to get involved with a robbery he’s planning from inside. When Damon refuses, his car is crushed, and he suspects Harvey of being behind the act. When he considers leaving Weatherfield, Sarah realises how much she has feelings for him, and they declare themselves to be a couple to the unimpressed family. Finding out that the half-brothers are at loggerheads, Adam offers to help Harvey with his appeal if he arranges to have Damon scared away. Harvey arranges a hitman to deal with Damon once Adam has completed his part of the bargain. Sarah invites Damon to move in with her.
- Shona Platt persuades Lauren Bolton to return to Roy's Rolls. Max Turner begins an apprenticeship as a hairdresser. Lauren is hurt when Max and Sabrina Adetiba make it clear they don't believe she has a boyfriend. She rings him up and finishes with him. Toyah Habeeb has to throw the youngsters out of the bistro when Lauren smuggles in vodka to add to their soft drinks.
- Summer Spellman treats Paul Foreman to a ride on a friend’s motorbike. The gesture goes badly when the cycle has no sidecar and Paul's friends struggle to put the humiliated man on to the machine to ride pillion. Expensive travel insurance prevents him and Billy Mayhew going on a holiday. When Paul falls whilst trying to get to the toilet and wets himself, Billy decides to leave his job and care for him full time. Paul tells Todd Grimshaw he has still not changed his mind about assisted dying and begs for his help. When he is unable to obtain prescription drugs, Paul asks Abi Webster who reluctantly buys Benzos for him. Kevin Webster discovers from a calculating Cassie Plummer that Abi supplied them and orders his wife out of his house. Finding out who she bought them for, Kevin advises Paul not to involve his wife, revealing what has transpired to a stunned Billy. After a lot of persuasion, he reluctantly agrees to help Paul himself.
- Michael Bailey refuses to have Ed back at No.3 and he stays at the corner shop flat. Gary Windass shows an interest in buying EGB Construction, but Ed is forced to hand over almost all the yard’s contents to bailiffs to meet his unpaid debts. Not wanting to rely on Dee-Dee for a roof over his head, he claims a friend has offered to put him up but instead sleeps in the empty yard. While he is going to fetch fish and chips, a heater sets fire to white spirits and Michael spots the premises ablaze. He finds himself trapped within and is rescued by his father. Michael agrees that Ed can move back into No.3, but the police suspect the fire was an insurance job. When they question him, and Ed cannot convince Michael of his innocence, his son rings Aggie Bailey in Birmingham and tells her everything that has happened. She washes her hands of her husband. Ed admits to a horrified Dee-Dee that although he didn't start the fire, he left it to burn as he saw it as a way out of all his problems. The police clear Ed and he is able to put in an insurance claim. Michael apologises for doubting him.
- Jenny vetoes Daisy’s attempts to boost business at the Rovers with special offers.
- The Porsche’s owner threatens to sue Webster's Autocentre for the scratch on his car and Kevin has to pay an expensive body shop to fix it. Cassie is put off confessing to causing the damage when Kevin and Abi offer her a permanent position. Roy Cropper reveals that Abi was not to blame, and Cassie is sacked. Abi persuades Kevin to reinstate her. Tyrone Dobbs goes on holiday to Italy with Fiz leaving the girls with Cassie and Evelyn, who moves back into No.9. Evelyn Plummer is impressed with her daughter when she deals maturely with Ruby Dobbs after she lies to her about getting nail extensions, falsely claiming that they are within school rules.
- Evelyn is angry when Terry Fensley only receives community service. Seeing him buying puppy food, she follows him but is threatened to mind her own business. Cassie agrees to helps her and Evelyn provides a distraction while her daughter breaks into Terry's house and, aside from finding caged puppies within, helps herself to a wedge of cash. She clubs Terry to the ground just before he discovers her. Evelyn is initially under suspicion for the assault. Hope Dobbs sees the money and demands a cut for her silence. Evelyn realises what Cassie did and rows with her for letting her take the rap. Terry is arrested for cruelty to animals.
- Asha Alahan mistakenly suspects Nina Lucas when someone at the university reports Isla Gibbs for having an inappropriate interest in her. At the same time, Amy Barlow flies off the handle with Aadi Alahan when he tells an interested Bobby Crawford that she is spoken for. Nina and Aadi give each other a shoulder to cry on. They kiss and instantly regret their action. Asha senses something going on between them, and the truth emerges. Asha flings her birthday present back at her brother when she calls at his flat, thinking he is drunk and passed out on the sofa, and not realising he is unconscious due to carbon monoxide poisoning. Amy saves him and he is taken to hospital. She intervenes between the siblings when Aadi accuses his sister of leaving him to die, pointing out to him that Asha wasn't thinking straight at the time. Nina moves back in with Roy while Dev Alahan insists his son moves back into No.7.
- Bobby impresses Carla Barlow when he obtains a contract for Underworld. Simon Barlow finds him annoying and Carla orders them to go out for a drink to get to know each other better. Sabrina and Lauren join them, and Bobby takes a fancy to Lauren. Simon begins to drink heavily and is sacked by Carla when he refuses to drive the Underworld van as he is over the limit. After Peter Barlow reneges on a job offer, Leanne takes him on at the bistro where he organises a lock-in after hours with himself and Bobby.
- Billy, Paul and Summer try to bring Todd and Moses Ekundayo together. Bernie Winter is released from prison and returns to a surprise party. Determined to make up for lost time, she fusses over her son, cleaning his flat, and Paul has to summon Todd quickly to hide the Benzos.
- Gemma Winter-Brown's anger over the time that the social services investigation is taking isn't improved when Linda Hancock arrives on a visit from Portugal. Finding out what’s happened, Linda tries to persuade Chesney Winter-Brown to apply for sole custody of Joseph. Chesney doesn't listen to his son when he complains again of being ill. The child is rushed to hospital when he suddenly collapses and a conversation between Gemma and Dr Gaddas makes the GP realise he has Lymes disease which he contracted on a school trip. Joseph recovers under treatment. Social services drop their investigation, but Joseph rejects his father for not believing his concerns. Gemma intervenes to reconcile them but finds it hard to forgive Chesney herself. Bernie warns Linda off from interfering in her family.
- Bernie borrows a campervan off a friend for an impromptu night away with her children but ends up getting lost and stuck in the mud on a rugby pitch. Having taken Summer to Sheffield, Billy misses the messages alerting him to where they have gone and assumes Paul has decided now to bring his life to an end. Overhearing Billy in a panic on the phone, Bernie and Gemma discover what Paul intends to do. They make him drop the idea. Billy again hurts his back helping Paul when an overworked Moses is running late. Unaware of the carer’s workload, Bernie thinks he is neglecting her son and reports him, resulting in his suspension. She tries but fails to retract her complaint when Paul makes her aware of the truth of the matter. Unable to work, Moses moves to London.
- Liam truants but is found out by Gary and Maria Connor. Forced back to school, he is attacked by Mason Radcliffe and sets off the fire alarm to escape him. Receiving threatening messages, he decides to stand up against his bullies. Instead, Mason provokes Liam into punching Dylan Wilson, an act for which he is suspended and reported to the police who decide to take a restorative justice approach and make him apologise to a contemptuous Dylan, who tells him that he and his mates will be waiting for him when he returns to school. In the meantime, Liam enjoys helping Gary at the furniture shop.
- Given a measly birthday present by Steve McDonald, Tracy insists that their bedroom is decorated and takes on Tommy Orpington to do the job. Steve, Tim Metcalfe, Kevin and Kirk Sutherland are awestruck by their idol’s presence among them, but Steve has agreed to go to Paris to see Emma Brooker who is working for a few days there. As the decorating nears its end, Tracy and Tommy’s mutual attraction becomes too much and the two end up having sex. They agree it's a one-off. Sally Metcalfe asks Tommy to stay around and decorate No.4's bedroom as well.
February
- With Steve due back from Paris, Tracy and Tommy have one last tryst in Preston's Petals but are almost caught by Steve when he returns early. Oblivious to what has been going on, Steve asks Tommy to decorate the flower shop as well. Recognising that there are difficulties in his marriage, Steve tries to arrange a romantic French meal with Tracy but spoils the effect when he invites an uncomfortable Tommy to join them. Amy almost catches her mother and her lover arguing over him flirting with Toyah, but Tracy comes up with a convincing story to deflect suspicion. She further panics when Steve lures Tommy to the Rovers for an afternoon to discuss football, worried that he will let slip about their flings. Confessing that her marriage is stale, and finding out that Steve is on a long taxi run, she invites Tommy into her bedroom at No.1. Tim helps Gav Adetiba overcome his fear of heights up ladders when he begins window-cleaning and outside No.1’s bedroom he is mortified to catch a glimpse of Tracy and a man who he assumes is Steve with her. When Sally hears about the airport run, and that Tracy took Tommy “for lunch”, she puts two and two together and tells Tim that Tracy is playing away from home. Loyal to his friend, he tells Steve that his wife is cheating after giving Tracy the chance to be honest, but he is forced to continue to employ Tommy as he has already started decorating No.4’s bedroom. Tracy announces the end of her marriage to Ken Barlow and Amy. Steve plans to move out but Ken tells his daughter that she should be the one to leave.
- Bethany investigates her story and, finding out that Lauren and Ryan were flatmates at the time, helps the young girl with tutoring for her exam all the time pumping her for information. Bethany submits the finished story to Chit-Chat. Daniel is staggered when he discovers what the anonymised article is about and to keep her relationship with him going, she offers to let him edit it to his satisfaction. He finds it's well written and balanced. Nevertheless, Bethany is unable to be truthful with Daisy at the forthcoming article and, getting cold feet, she tries to withdraw it but without success. Daisy thinks she and Daniel have a chance of reconciliation and is devastated when the Chit-Chat article is published. She easily recognises herself in the story and forces Daniel to admit that he helped Bethany with it.
- Damon inflates Ed’s insurance claim, adding in items which Dee-Dee recognises as having been repossessed by the bailiffs. She tears a strip off Damon for putting her father in danger of committing fraud, but his remarks make her assume that he knows that she colluded in insider trading over the Waterford’s deal. She tells Adam about her concerns and confesses to all that happened.
- Seething that Damon has moved into his old home, Adam demands that Sarah agrees to sell it. Not knowing who the appeal is for, Dee-Dee and Joel Deering supply a possible defence for Adam to use in Harvey's appeal. To ensure its success, Harvey arranges to pay off John Perry, a man dying of cancer and who is willing to admit to being Natasha Blakeman’s murderer. Coached by Adam, John makes a statement to the police, but Adam finds that due to a combination of circumstances CCTV footage still exists of John in a shop when he was supposedly killing Natasha. Harvey orders him to obtain and destroy the recording, but Adam is overcome with guilt when a family liaison officer informs Nick Tilsley and Leanne about the appeal and they confide in him their concerns that its success could devastate Sam Blakeman.
- Drinking once more, Simon falls asleep in the Rovers and Leanne Battersby has to go and fetch him. Bobby takes a fancy to Lauren and invites her to a party he's throwing which is supposedly to cheer Simon up. The visit to see the twins is cancelled supposedly due to Lexi Boulter having chicken pox but Abi thinks it’s because of the videos. She employs a private investigator to find the person uploading the videos, but he is also unsuccessful. She and Kevin are delighted when public pressure leads to the cancellation of the documentary. Bethany gets a job at a magazine company who ask her to write an article praising Corey, but she refuses the assignment. Abi discovers Stefan Brent is the CEO of both the magazine and documentary production company. She suspects him being behind the deepfakes and reports him to the police who make no charges after a minimal investigation. Kevin borrows Bethany’s security pass to the company office and steals a mobile phone he finds there. He’s caught in the act on CCTV, but Kevin realises the phone has something incriminating when Stefan demands it back without reporting it to the police. Kevin makes a deal that he will keep the phone, albeit unlocked, if Stefan pays for the deepfakes to be censored. Stefan refuses when he finds out the cost and Kevin punches him when he makes an insulting comment about Abi. Furious with Kevin, Abi makes her own deal with Stefan when she finds out what’s occurred, and he agrees to no more videos. She goes to visit her twins in Essex when she finds out that Lynsey knew nothing of the deep fakes. Kevin worries that she’s leaving him.

Kit interviews her sympathetically and releases her pending enquiries. She and Nick suspect Rowan of reporting her using information supplied by Leanne. She lies that she told him nothing but is caught out when Rowan sends Toyah a bouquet of yellow roses, just like the ones that she told Leanne that she left on Rose’s grave. Nick insists that Leanne drops the Institute, but she refuses. Finding common ground over a bottle of wine, Nick and Toyah kiss and instantly regret it. Rowan engineers a ruse to say Leanne is in hospital, preventing Toyah from appearing at the injunction hearing which is duly granted. Rowan agrees to drop their legal fees if Toyah signs an NDA. The police release Rose for burial and Toyah is incensed when she finds out that Rowan has contributed to the costs of the funeral through Leanne. Toyah realises that she’s being followed by a man employed by Rowan, who manages to take a photo of her and Nick kissing again. Leanne insists that the Institute’s methods can help her through her ordeal. Tired of the arguing, Toyah decides she will face her treatment on her own. Rowan is pleased to prise Leanne away from her sister. Nick gives his unsolicited support to Toyah and admits to David that he’s falling in love with her. Rowan keeps Leanne within his clutches by telling her she’s being fast-tracked to level 8 of the Institute’s hierarchy. Tired of being put upon at the bistro, Amy quits and decides to invest her funds after all. Rowan organises an “upload” session for her, alarming Leanne when she sees him recording the girl’s confessions. As a trustee, Ken reads the business case for the resource centre and decides to release Amy’s funds, however a malware session that Rowan asks Leanne to conduct goes badly wrong when Amy cannot cope with the abuse shouted at her by the other attendees. She decides to rescind her investment, only to find that the Institute refuses to return the funds. She investigates and finds that a woman has been staying in the flat, but again Joel manages to come up with a plausible tale. Growing more suspicious, she checks the website of the jewellers linked to the December receipt and finds a necklace for sale, identical to the one that Lauren had. She also discovers that Joel didn’t pass on Roy’s sketch of the item to the police as he said he would. When Lauren tells her that she’s moving to Belfast, and Dee-Dee sees her and Joel together in the baby’s incubator room, she realises the full truth about her fiancé. Getting the truth from Lauren about their relationship, they realise she was drugged by him and report Joel to the police. He tries to implicate Lauren in procuring an illegal abortion and he is released pending enquiries. Dee-Dee throws him out of her flat after putting an illegal tracker on his phones. Joel is furious when Dee-Dee ensures that he is suspended from work and denied access to Maeve. Lauren wants to leave Weatherfield, but Roy persuades her to stay among friends. Adam worries that Dee-Dee is obsessing about Joel to the detriment of her work. Lisa is ordered to wind up the investigation due to lack of evidence. Recognising counterfeit goods, Kit lets her go but behind her back he reaches a 50/50 arrangement with Sid for himself. Kit stirs matters between mother and son regarding her asking her Craig to look after dodgy money, thus endangering his police career. A puzzled Kirk tries to reconcile them but finds out about his wife’s deceptions and leaves her. Beth spots Sid handing Kit’s cut over to him and blackmails him for £400, despite Daniel’s warnings that the officer isn’t to be trusted. Kit finds out from a guileless Craig how he covered for the death of Ted Spear and threatens Beth with destroying her son’s career unless she leaves Weatherfield. She takes a job at the Norfolk factory where Fiz worked and departs, despite a proposal of marriage from Kirk. Craig is at a loss to explain his mother’s decision.
