Colin was the Clerk of Court at Alan Bradley's trial for fraud and assault at Weatherfield Crown Court in 1989. Colin was on hand before the trial, and informed Det. Sgt. Crichton that they'd be lucky to get onto Alan before lunch.
The exact charges, as read to the court by the clerk, were that on 2nd January of that year Alan dishonestly with a view to gain for himself or another or with the intent to cause loss to another procured the execution by an employee of the Weatherfield Building Society of a valuable security, namely a check in the sum of £15,000 by deception, by falsely representing he was Leonard Fairclough, the lawful owner of No.7 Coronation Street, Weatherfield and entitled to a mortgage in respect of the said property. The second charge was that on 13th March of that year he assaulted Rita Fairclough, thereby occasioning her actual bodily harm. Alan plead guilty to both charges and was sentenced to two years in prison, with one suspended, but walked free from the court that day having served seven months and been granted remission for good behaviour.
