Clare Kelly (born 25th February 1922 in Manchester, died 18th February 2001 in Bath) appeared on Coronation Street intermittently between May 1969 and September 1978 as Edith Tatlock, mother of Valerie Barlow.
She had previously appeared as the wife of Wally Hunt in How to Succeed in Business Without Really Frying, a second season episode of the Street spin-off Pardon the Expression, transmitted in May 1966.
Her other credits include roles in No Hiding Place, Bulldog Breed, Z Cars, Friday Night, Mary Barton, The Expert, Follyfoot, Dixon of Dock Green, Softly Softly: Task Force, A Raging Calm, Marked Personal, Beryl's Lot, The Cuckoo Waltz, A Kind of Loving, Rep, No Excuses, Emmerdale Farm, The Bill, The Sharp End, Dalziel and Pascoe, Heartbeat and Where the Heart Is.
Film roles include A Hard Day's Night, Georgy Girl, All Neat in Black Stockings, The Best Pair of Legs in the Business and The Fourth Protocol.
On stage, she appeared in productions of Macbeth, Coriolanus, The Revenger's Tragedy and Romeo and Juliet for the Royal Shakespeare Company. Other works include Inadmissible Evidence, Backbone, Little Boxes, Death of a Salesman, Hindle Wakes and Steaming.
Her funeral was attended by actress Anne Reid, who played her on-screen daughter, Valerie Barlow.
