Cindy Watson was the editor of the Weatherfield Gazette who called in Nick's Bistro for a drink in July 2017. Cindy's waiter Daniel Osbourne was aware of her work and informed her that he had applied for work experience at the Gazette.
Daniel enquired as to whether Cindy was there for information on Chesney Brown's stabbing at the Bistro earlier in the month. When Cindy told him she was unaware of the event, Daniel told her that he had written an article on it as practice and asked her if she could read it.
Daniel's boss Robert Preston overheard him and Cindy discussing the stabbing. When Robert asked who Cindy was, Daniel told him who she was and Robert warned Daniel that if his report was published, it could cause serious problems for the Bistro.
Cindy returned to the Bistro later that day to tell Daniel that she loved the article and asked him if she could publish it. Daniel declined, saying that it was only a writing exercise and that it would upset Robert.
Gemma Winter approached Cindy after Daniel left and asked if she was interested in knowing who was stabbed and how it happened. Cindy published the article the following day, thanks to the help of her 'inside source'. This caused the Bistro to suffer several booking cancellations.
