Christopher Anthony Arthur Hancock (born 5th June 1928 in Bishop Auckland, died 29th September 2004 in Lincoln) appeared on Coronation Street in October 1968 as a reporter, seeking information following the death of Steve Tanner.
Having trained at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School, his other on-screen credits included roles in Z Cars, The Moonstone, Crown Court, Love for Lydia, The Gaffer and The Bill, but he will probably be best remembered as Charlie Cotton in EastEnders from 1986 to 1990.
A prolific stage actor, he appeared in productions including The Comedy of Errors, My Wife's Lodger, Ten Minute Alibi, Wild Horses, The River Line, The Deep Blue Sea, Pink String and Sealing Wax, The Young in Heart, The Relapse, Life with Father, Paris Not So Gay, The Hamlet of Stepney Green, Candida, A Passage to India, Lock Up Your Daughters, The Merchant of Venice, Oedipus the King, When We Are Married, The Astrakhan Coat, Othello, All's Well That Ends Well, A Taste of Honey, A Servant of Two Masters, Geneva, Three Sisters, Uncle Vanya, A Midsummer Night's Dream, The Admirable Bashville and Entertaining Mr Sloane.
His older brother, the late actor Stephen Hancock, appeared on Coronation Street in the regular role of Ernest Bishop, and his former wife, actress Ann Walford, also appeared on the programme.
