Chris Gascoyne

Chris Gascoyne (born 31st January 1968 in Huthwaithe, Nottinghamshire) is the seventh actor to play Peter Barlow in Coronation Street, first appearing during the fortieth anniversary live episode in December 2000. He left the series in November 2003, returned for a three-month stint in early 2007 before resuming again as a regular from October 2008 until November 2014 (with a few months' break in 2012). He reprised the role briefly in July 2015 as part of a storyline involving Deirdre Barlow's funeral after the real-life passing of friend and former colleague Anne Kirkbride, later returning as a regular for the third time in October 2016, departing again in December 2023.

He has been a regular on television since he was a teenager, playing Barry Kent in The Secret Diary of Adrian Mole aged 13 and 3/4, as well as roles in Dramarama, Connie and Hard Cases.

He went on to train as an actor at the Central School of Speech and Drama in London, and upon graduating made further television appearances in Casualty, The Bill, Between the Lines, Peak Practice, Frontiers, The Locksmith, Soldier Soldier, Duck Patrol, The Thing About Vince, A Touch of Frost, A Thing Called Love, Where the Heart Is, The Royal, Murdoch Mysteries, Blue Murder and as the regular character Al Ware in New Street Law.

On stage, he has appeared at the National Theatre in Racing Demon, The Absence of War and Murmuring Judges, plus West End and regional work in productions of Jack and the Beanstalk, Bluebird, The Changing Room, Frankie and Johnny at the Clair De Lune, The Long and the Short and the Tall, Wasteland, The Ribcage and The Rise and Fall of Little Voice opposite Vicky Entwistle and Endgame with David Neilson on a national tour in 2016.

Film credits include Suckers and My Last Five Girlfriends.

He has been married to actress Caroline Harding, who has herself appeared in Coronation Street, since 2002. They have three children.
