Chris Canavan (born "George Christopher Canavan" on 6th June 1928 in Belfast, died 21st February 2013 in Preston) appeared on Coronation Street in six credited roles:
- Maisonettes builder Bill in April 1968
- A pump attendant at Alan Howard's garage in August 1970
- Weatherfield County Borough Council pest controller Jack in April 1973
- A customer in Biddulph's newsagents in June 1973
- Mr. Meadows, a customer of Canal Garage in March 1974
- Builder Dusty in August 1976.
Aside from these speaking roles, Chris had the longest career of anyone as an extra on the programme with appearances from 1962 to 2013 in hundreds of episodes.
Having served in the Merchant Navy, he owned and ran a window-cleaning business, eventually taking up acting following studies at Southport Drama School.
His other credits included roles in The Fellows, Shabby Tiger, Crown Court, How's Your Father?, Nightingale's Boys, The Nearly Man and Red Letter Day.
