Quintin Charles Devinish Lawson better known as "Charles Lawson" was born on 17th September 1959 in Enniskillen, Co. Fermanagh, Northern Ireland and appeared on Coronation Street as Jim McDonald. He also appeared as Bill McQueen in Doctors and also appeared in Bread, Boon, The Bill, Crown Court, Dalziel and Pascoe, Wilt, In Deep, Casualty, Holby City, and Rosemary & Thyme. His past stage work includes roles for the Royal Shakespeare Company and the National Theatre.

Lawson was axed from Coronation Street in 2000 after playing Jim for eleven years. However he continued to make irregular appearances in 2003, 2004, 2005, 2007 to 2008, 2009, 2010 to 2011 and 2014. Jim was involved in a storyline in 2011 tied to Liz's exit where he was sent to prison for the second time. He reprised the role again three years later in 2014, as part of a storyline involving Peter Barlow (Chris Gascoyne) wrongfully being imprisoned for murder. He returned to the role between September and October 2018.

Lawson now runs a farm shop in Cheshire with his partner Debbie, and has said he would return to Coronation Street whenever there are good storylines, but has admitted to the show not being the same and getting tired of the role.

He supports Rangers F.C.
