Prince Charles in the doorway of the Rovers on the outdoor set
King Charles III is the real-life HRH King of the United Kingdom, who appeared briefly, in his capacity as HRH Prince of Wales, in Coronation Street 's live episode broadcast on the 8th December 2000 for the programme's fortieth anniversary. He was seen in footage on a television news bulletin as he was on a supposed visit to Weatherfield as Councillor Audrey Roberts was presented to him. In reality, the footage was filmed earlier in the day as actress Sue Nicholls was presented to the Prince when he visited the Granada studios. It had previously been agreed with his staff that the pictures of his could be used in this manner during the episode and for this assistance he received a "With thanks to..." credit at the end of the instalment. As well as meeting Ms. Nicholls, the Prince chatted to others of the cast and production team and unveiled a plaque to mark his visit that was attached to the outside of the Rovers set.
The real-life marriage of his son Prince William to Catherine Middleton took place on 29th April 2011, and a photo of the couple was seen on display in the Rovers during Episode 7589. He was named King of the United Kingdom on 8th September 2022 following the passing of Queen Elizabeth II.
