Cassandra "Cassie" Plummer is the wayward daughter of Evelyn Plummer and mother of Tyrone Dobbs.
Cassie has struggled with drug addiction for most of her life, starting when she was a teenager. When her father Harold died from a brain haemorrhage, Evelyn blamed it on Cassie, causing her to run away from home. Evelyn found her six months later in a drugged-up state and with a baby in tow. After leaving the child at a police station, Evelyn got Cassie clean, at least for a time, but Cassie never forgave her for separating her from her son and after moving to South Africa, she cut off all contact.
She eventually moved back to the UK, and after her most recent relapse in 2022 Evelyn returned to get her off the drugs once more. In 2023, Cassie found out that Evelyn was secretly living with Tyrone, the son she'd abandoned. After revealing her identity to Tyrone, Cassie was allowed to get to know him and her grandchildren Hope and Ruby.
She worked as an office clerk at Webster's Autocentre for a while before finding herself employment as a carer for Ken Barlow, but found it difficult to let go of her old life and habits; in 2025, it emerged that Cassie had been stealing from Ken and drugging him in order to keep him dependent on her. She lost her job and was nearly disowned by Tyrone, but Evelyn persuaded him not to turn his back on her. She now lives at 9 Coronation Street and is seeing Steve McDonald, working on the switchboard at his taxi firm, Street Cars.
Biography[]
Cassie Plummer was born in 1966. Her parents, Harold and Evelyn Plummer, moved from Liverpool to Manchester when Cassie was about ten. Cassie fell in with the wrong crowd and started drinking at twelve years old, progressing to heroin by fifteen. The worst of them was Richie, a 26-year-old who got Cassie into drugs and made her sleep with his mates for money. Cassie, believing that Richie loved her, would do whatever she was told. Harold and Evelyn didn't know how to deal with Cassie's problems, and gave her little support or understanding.
In 1982, Harold found condoms and £100 in Cassie's bag and, realising she was being paid for sex, accused her of bringing shame on the family and slapped her. When he died of a brain haemorrhage shortly afterwards, Evelyn attributed it to the stress Cassie had caused him, leading a guilt-ridden Cassie to run away the morning after the funeral.
Cassie re-surfaced six months later in Liverpool, having recently given birth to a son, the child of her and an unspecified client. Evelyn took Cassie home and left the child on the doorstep of a police station, feeling that it was the best place for him. Eighteen torturous months later, Evelyn got Cassie clean but by that point, the child was untraceable and Cassie didn't want to live with the woman who'd abandoned him. Moving abroad to Pietermaritzburg, South Africa with her junkie boyfriend, Cassie had no contact with her mum for many years.
Cassie was back in England by 2022, when she moved to Warrington from Bristol. After being clean for a long time, she became addicted to pregabalin and a social worker friend reached out to Evelyn. Having given Cassie up for dead years earlier, Evelyn went down to Warrington to wean her daughter off the drugs. However, once she was clean again, Evelyn swiftly returned to Weatherfield, making Cassie curious about the life she was leading there. Having obtained Evelyn's address from her handbag, Cassie followed her mum to Weatherfield, where she was informed by a neighbour, Kevin Webster, that Evelyn was living with her grandson Tyrone Dobbs and his family at 9 Coronation Street. The revelation caused Cassie to relapse, and Evelyn rushed to her side again when she overdosed on pregabalin. In her hospital bed, Cassie confronted Evelyn about the fact that she'd again prevented her from having a relationship with her son, with Evelyn countering that, due to her lifestyle, it was better for her to stay away. Nevertheless, Evelyn felt obligated to get Cassie through her latest ordeal and left Weatherfield with her, promising to introduce her to Tyrone when she was back on track.
Six weeks later, with Cassie's recovery progressing, Evelyn rented Flat 4, Weatherfield Precinct for the two of them. Impatient to meet her extended family, Cassie broke free of her mum's control and attended the Little Big Shotz show at the Viaduct Bistro, where her granddaughter Ruby was performing a solo. Tyrone was staggered when Cassie walked up to him and revealed her true identity. Met with anger for not getting in touch earlier, Cassie spun Tyrone a story containing some half-truths about her past which led him to invite her to move into No.9 to get to know her better.
Cassie and Tyrone tried to establish a relationship with each other, but she felt patronised when he invited the Websters for dinner and she discovered that Abi Webster was a recovering addict herself. Tyrone was also concerned about her fitness to be around Hope and Ruby when she got drunk in the Rovers with Dev Alahan and Kirk Sutherland, but cut her some slack her by giving her a job manning the phones at Webster's Autocentre. She upset her son again when, to curry favour with Hope, she let her granddaughter skip school and took her to have nose studs fitted.
Cassie continued to take pregabalin, and was roughed up by dealer Dean Turnbull when she tried to obtained further supplies from him. When Dean pestered her for money that she owed him at the garage, Abi prevented her from raiding the garage's petty cash to pay him. Instead, Abi threatened him with exposure to the police unless he left Cassie alone. Still desperate for a fix, Cassie bought drugs from Dean with money for Ruby’s birthday and overdosed, ending up in hospital. Unable to have her close to his girls, Tyrone asked her to leave, and Abi moved into the precinct flat to look after her, leaving Evelyn able to move back to No.9. The situation was reversed when Tyrone joined Cassie at Abi’s support group and was taken in by the lies she told about how her mother threw her out of the family home when she was a vulnerable teenager, leading her to turn to prostitution.
In October, Cassie was accused of being behind the wheel of Tyrone's car when it hit Eliza Woodrow. Roy Cropper provided her with an alibi, but she began drinking in anger at being suspected. Finding her paralytic in Victoria Gardens, Kevin let her sleep it off overnight in No.13.
Cassie began to fall for Kevin. At Christmas, she borrowed a customer's Porsche to take Roy to pick up a present for Evelyn, but scratched the vehicle on the journey. She later allowed Kevin to think Abi caused the scratch while working on it, but Roy refused to let an innocent woman take the blame and told Kevin the truth. Cassie was only spared the sack thanks to an appeal for mercy by Abi.
In January, Evelyn turned to Cassie for help exposing Terry Fensley's illegal puppy farm. Evelyn provided a distraction while Cassie broke into Terry's house and, aside from finding caged puppies within, helped herself to a wedge of cash. She was discovered by Terry, but managed to club him to the ground. Evelyn was furious when Cassie was silent while she was investigated by the police, accused of assaulting Terry herself, though Cassie made amends by donating the money she'd stolen to a dog charity. Later that month, when Tyrone went on holiday with Fiz to Italy, Evelyn moved back into No.9 to help Cassie with the girls. Evelyn was impressed with her when she dealt maturely with Ruby after she lied to her about getting nail extensions, falsely claiming that they were within school rules.
Evelyn had never found out about Cassie's sex work before Tyrone was born. In March, when Cassie passionately defended Lauren Bolton's Ovidz career, Tyrone explained to his puzzled gran that Cassie was once a prostitute. Cassie then admitted everything to Evelyn who, continuing to mellow in her attitude to her daughter, assured her that she wasn't the cause of Harold's death.
Cassie continued to snipe at Abi at the garage, and was sacked in June when she suggested that the deepfaked pornographic videos of Abi which had leaked online were genuine. Willing to try anything, she applied to be Ken Barlow's carer after he fell down the stairs, with Steve McDonald accepting as she would be cheaper than a qualified carer. After a shaky start due to her lack of credentials, Ken enjoyed her presence. Cassie and Steve also became mates, with Cassie helping Steve settle a score with footballer Tommy Orpington by stealing a bust of the ex-Weatherfield County FC player from the Chariot Square Hotel. When Steve's estranged wife Tracy returned to Weatherfield for a visit, she told Cassie that she was surplus to requirements at No.1 but Ken and Steve both stuck up for her, ensuring that she kept her job.
In August, Tyrone's ex-girlfriend Alina Pop returned to the area to testify in a trial, together with a son who Tyrone suspected was his. Eager to meet her possible grandson, Cassie engineered a meeting between Alina and Tyrone and he confirmed that the boy, Dorin, was his son.
Knowing that Ken was hiding a £50,000 premium bonds win from his family, Cassie persuaded him to spend some of the money on a holiday in Porto, offering to chaperone him. Steve was hurt when he saw that "Kenny" had treated Cassie to a new jacket, and made insinuations about her being a gold digger. He softened towards Cassie when she was stood up on a date and they slept together. However, when Adam began to investigate his grandfather’s sudden spending habits Ken admitted to the premium bond win and Steve accused Cassie of manipulating Ken when he found out she knew about the windfall.
After returning from Porto, Ken ended Cassie's employment as his carer, saying he was now fully recovered. To hold onto her lucrative position, she deliberately overdosed Ken on warfarin, hospitalising him and using the opportunity to blame Tracy after she knocked over his pill case, saying she must have mixed up her father's meds. When he recovered, she continued to drug him to keep him dependent on her, switching to antihistamine, and borrowed money from him to pay off supposed debts. She was eventually caught dosing his drink by Ken's grandson Bertie Osbourne, but when Daniel informed Ken of her suspicious behaviour, she lied that she had a drink problem and was slipping brandy into her own coffee. Ken was taken in, and even agreed to fund some private therapy for Cassie.
With her feet firmly under the table at No.1, Cassie used Ken's debit card to buy herself expensive hair straighteners. When Ken saw his bill and naturally didn't remember making the purchase, the Barlows accused Cassie of stealing. However, Cassie was one step ahead of them, having ordered the straighteners with a gift card for Tracy, exonerating her once the parcel arrived. His faith in Cassie vindicated, Ken asked her to move in and be his live-in carer, and Cassie eagerly accepted.
In February 2025, Cassie started going out with Steve. They were away on a date when an iPad Cassie had ordered for herself on Ken's card was delivered to the house, causing Ken to give it to Amy Barlow instead, seeming to assume that he'd ordered it and forgotten. However, at breakfast the next morning, he tested Cassie by switching their mugs around before confronting her about the antihistamines and the thefts, having put the pieces together over previous weeks. After throwing her out, Ken suffered a heart attack but recovered and was able to report Cassie's crimes to the family, causing her to be arrested.
Ejected from No.1, and given the cold shoulder from Tyrone and Fiz, Cassie was left with nowhere to go. Hearing that she was homeless, Ken dropped the charges against her and alerted Evelyn, who returned to try and get her daughter reconciled with Tyrone. To get back at Cassie, Tracy bought drugs and gave them to her, getting her addicted again. Roy encountered her buying another supply and informed Evelyn, who was able to leverage Tyrone into taking his mother back in at No.9. Steve also decided to forgive Cassie, and quickly ended up in bed with her again. They were caught out by Hope and Ruby, and later Tyrone and Fiz, but Cassie was unrepentant.
In October, when Tyrone returned home in a wheelchair after suffering a spinal injury, Cassie was again thrown out of No.9 when she left her son to fend for himself while she made love to Steve, and Tyrone fell and sprained his wrist in her absence. Much to Tracy's fury, Ken allowed her to move back into No.1 and Tim helped her out with a job on the switch at Street Cars.
