Carlton Television was the ITV weekday franchise holder for London, broadcasting from 9.25am every Monday to 5.15pm every Friday. The franchise launched on 1st January 1993, succeeding Thames Television. The first episode of Coronation Street broadcast by Carlton was Episode 3485 on 4th January 1993 (Episode 3484 aired on Carlton's launch date but was broadcast by London Weekend Television as 1st January was a Friday) and the franchise has carried the programme since then.
Since 2002, Carlton and London Weekend Television have been managed as a single entity, ITV London, though legally both franchises are still separate. Carlton, along with another ten of the 15 ITV franchises, lost its regional identity on 28th October 2002.
