Captain Platt was the head of the bomb disposal squad who defused the unexploded device that Stan Ogden and Albert Tatlock found under the flags in the backyard of 1 Coronation Street in September 1964. He came from Cheadle Hulme, just outside Manchester, and had boyhood memories of the Manchester Blitz of 23rd December 1940. Platt theorised that the unmarked bomb had landed in Rosamund Street and bounced to its present location.
