The Candy Floss Lady sold the confectionary for sixpence each at a travelling funfair which called into Weatherfield for the August Bank Holiday in 1961. She tried to sell one to a flustered Leonard Swindley but he was more intent on finding Emily Nugent from whom he had become separated in the House of Fun. Doreen Lostock had bought one earlier but had fallen ill on the dodgems and her Elliston's Raincoat Factory friend Audrey Plant tried to get a refund as it hadn't been touched but the lady refused, saying it wasn't "hy-geenical". A more willing customer was Lucille Hewitt who watched in fascination as the sugared concoction appeared in wisps on the stick.
