Bruce Norman (born 2nd November 1936, died 16th August 1990) was a storyliner for 62 episodes of Coronation Street transmitted between August 1968 and March 1969.
His work on the Street would appear to be a strange departure for a writer who eventually specialised in history, but Granada Television had a policy of moving its staff into eclectic positions and not having a narrow focus on any perceived skillset. Whilst at the station he also wrote an episode of the City 68 drama series (which was produced by H.V. Kershaw) and then moved into his favoured area, scripting two episodes of the 1968 documentary series Cities at War.
Soon after, he moved to the BBC where he wrote, edited or produced a number of documentaries and series which had history as their theme, including Horizon, The Birth of Television, Living Legends, Six English Towns, Timewatch, Footsteps and Chronicle, winning several BAFTA awards in the process. He was also the author of several books which accompanied his various television series.
