Brian Rawlinson (born 12th November 1931 in Stockport, died 23rd November 2000 in Lyme Regis, Dorset) appeared on Coronation Street between January and April 1961, February 1963 and in August 1970 as plumber Joe Makinson.
He is most famous for his role as Gaff Guernsey in the mid-1950s adventure series The Buccaneers and as Robert Onedin in The Onedin Line. He guest-appeared in most of the Sapphire films adventure serials of the late 1950s and continued to work until the late 1990s, appearing in many television series in a guest-actor capacity, including The Count of Monte Cristo, Dixon of Dock Green, Champion Road, The Invisible Man, Z Cars, No Hiding Place, Softly Softly, Honey Lane, The Country Diary of an Edwardian Lady and Last of the Summer Wine.
Film roles include Dangerous Exile, Behind the Mask, The Sheriff of Fractured Jaw, No Kidding, Carry on Cruising, Nurse on Wheels, Carry on Cleo, The Big Job, Carry on Cowboy and See No Evil.
He began his stage career with the Old Vic and appeared in their productions of William Poel Commemoration, The Taming of the Shrew, Richard II, Macbeth, Love's Labour's Lost and As You Like It. Other theatre works include Bus Stop, Mister Universe, When We Are Married, An Inspector Calls, Noises Off and Man and Superman.
