Robert "Bobby" Crawford is the nephew of Carla Barlow.
Bobby came to stay with Carla in 2023 after his mum revealed that Rob Donovan was his father. Since then, he has got a job at Underworld factory and was pursuing Lauren Bolton at the time of her disappearance.
Biography[]
Bobby was born around 2002 and raised by a single mother. As an adult, he lived with cerebral palsy.
In late 2023, Bobby began feuding with his mum's new boyfriend, Colin. His mother took Colin's side and kicked Bobby out. Having recently been informed that Rob Donovan was his father, Bobby tracked him down to a Humberside prison, where he was serving a life sentence for the murder of Tina McIntyre. Rob pointed Bobby in the direction of his sister Carla Barlow, who was taken aback when Bobby turned up on her doorstep asking for a place to stay. She agreed to put him up at 15a Victoria Street until he made other arrangements but it became apparent that he would be with her for some time when a van pulled up outside the flat with all of his belongings, including his trumpet.
With his lazy good-for-nothing attitude grating on her, Carla gave Bobby a week's trial on the sales team at Underworld to try and make him less shiftless and pay his way. He impressed his aunt when he obtained a contract for the factory.
In January 2024, Bobby took a fancy to Lauren Bolton, a waitress at Roy's Rolls. Lauren was initially indifferent to him, but they were brought closer together when Bobby found out that Rob killed Tina in cold blood and not in self-defence, as he'd been led to believe, and he and Lauren bonded over their lousy dads. However, he was put off when it seemed that Lauren was still seeing her wealthy ex-boyfriend. When he saw a bruise on her shoulder, he became concerned that her ex had been abusing her, though she denied it.
Later, Bobby found signs of a very hurried departure from Lauren's flat, and reported her disappearance to the police. Despite the general consensus being that Lauren had simply done a runner, Bobby felt otherwise and made public appeals about her whereabouts. His suspicions were further provoked when Roy Cropper cleaned out her flat thoroughly, allegedly to prevent the tenant Evelyn Plummer from being billed for the clean-up by the landlord. Bobby feared Lauren was dead when prospective tenant Sean Tully noticed blood stains on the curtains, and passed the information onto the police. A forensics team found evidence that a bloody scene had been taken place, and launched a murder investigation, eventually charging Roy with the crime. Convinced of Roy's innocence, Bobby concocted a story that on the night of Lauren's disappearance he saw a man wearing a dark coat and a balaclava in her flat, involving Carla in his deception. However, a bail application using Bobby's evidence was rejected, and Roy eventually told DS Lisa Swain that his statement was false. Bobby was charged with perverting the course of justice, but the charge was dropped along with Roy's when Nathan Curtis became the prime suspect for Lauren's murder. After Lauren was found safe and well, Bobby offered her a room at his flat, but was overruled by Carla who blamed Lauren for the hell Roy had been through.
