Bill Thornhill was a builder who knew Pat Phelan from the local building trade.
Phelan spotted Bill and joined him to speak about the development. Bill noticed that Phelan hadn't mentioned whether or not he was going for the job and he joked that he hadn't changed, still keeping his cards close to his chest.
When Bill left, Phelan rang his associate George to ask if he could dig up any dirt on Bill that would mean that he wouldn't get the development job. Phelan was delighted to find out from George that Bill hadn't paid a fine and that he could no longer get the job at the mill.
