Beryl Bainbridge CBE (born on 21st November 1932 in Liverpool, died on 2nd July 2010 in London) appeared on Coronation Street in January 1961 as Ginnie, a student friend of Ken Barlow.
Beginning her career as an actress in repertory theatre in the 1950s, she appeared in productions including The Sun and I, The Brothers Castiglioni, Dear Brutus, The Hollow Crown, The Queen's Husband, Young Madam Conti and Jeannie.
Her other on-screen acting roles include Rookery Nook, Biggles (in an episode scripted by Tony Warren), Knight Errant Limited, Family Solicitor and Doomwatch.
She made her radio debut in 1955 in a Children's Hour play, acting alongside Violet Carson.
Since much better known as an author, she was shortlisted five times for the Booker prize for fiction, with over twenty books to her name before her death including An Awfully Big Adventure, Every Man for Himself and Master Georgie.
