Berwick Kaler (born "Raymond Kaler" on 31st October 1946 in Sunderland) appeared on Coronation Street in October 1985 as Police Constable Bob Peacock.

He also appeared in the spin-off Coronation Street - The Feature Length Special (a.k.a. The QE2 Cruise) as the Padre.

Moving to London in his teenage years to become a painter and decorator, he was hit with the acting bug and sought success on the stage.

His other television credits include roles in Sink or Swim, Auf Wiedersehen, Pet, Running Wild, The Bill, A Very British Coup, Bad Boyes, The New Statesman, Taggart, Chalkface, Spender, Crocodile Shoes, The Tide of Life, How We Used to Live, Bramwell, Grafters, The Worst Witch, Breeze Block, Heartbeat, Distant Shores and Moving On.

Film roles include Bloodthirsty Butchers, Nightbirds, The Body Beneath, The Man with Two Heads, The Rats Are Coming! The Werewolves Are Here!, Jude, I Want You and A Knight's Tale.

He is best known for his role as the dame in the annual pantomime at the Theatre Royal in York which he has participated in since 1978 and which he now also writes and directs. Such is his popularity in this role that he has been awarded the Freedom of the City of York as well as an honorary degree from York University.
