Bertie Osbourne is the son of Daniel Osbourne and the late Sinead Osbourne.

Born prematurely so that his mother could continue cancer treatment, Bertie spent the first few weeks of his life in an incubator. Sinead's cancer later returned more aggressively and she passed away in October 2019, three months before Bertie's first birthday. Since then, Daniel has been raising Bertie as a single parent.

Now four years old, Bertie lives with Daniel at 19a Victoria Street following Daniel's split from fiancée Daisy Midgeley, who Bertie had come to see as his mother.

Biography[]

Bertie was born on 14th January 2019 at Weatherfield General to Daniel Osbourne and Sinead Tinker. As Sinead had been diagnosed with cervical cancer after his conception, he was inducted at six months in order to allow her to be treated with radiotherapy as soon as possible. Due to his premature birth, Bertie was kept in an incubator for the first few weeks of his life.

In March, Bertie was well enough to be released from the hospital, with Daniel and Sinead holding a party at their flat to celebrate his homecoming. The pair later planned to have Bertie christened, bowing to Sinead's family's wishes for them to have a religious ceremony The christening took place in April, with Beth Sutherland, Tracy McDonald and Chesney Brown acting as Bertie's godparents. At the party, the Barlow and Tinker families engaged in a culture clash, resulting in Kirk Sutherland singing a tune to break the tension and bring everyone together.

Sinead's death

2019: Bertie is read a bedtime story by his father as his mother peacefully slips away in the bed next to them

In September, Daniel and Sinead remarried so that their union was legally binding. Their happiness was cut short when Sinead discovered that the cancer had returned more aggressively and that she only had months left to live. An early first birthday party was held for Bertie so that Sinead could be around for the major milestone, however the event was ruined when Sinead received news that her cancer hadn't responded to chemotherapy and she only had weeks left to live. In her final days, Sinead recorded video messages for Bertie for him to watch as he grew up to ensure that her son would have a memory of her. She died peacefully on 25th October.

A grieving Daniel was now a single dad. In January 2020, Daniel took Bertie to see Dr Gaddas at the medical centre for an injection. However, unable to see his son in pain, Daniel refused to allow Gaddas to continue. He insisted that he would return another time, but never got around to it. When Bertie became ill that same month, the child was rushed to Weatherfield General, with Daniel left feeling guilty when his son was diagnosed with measles.

In 2021, Daniel started seeing barmaid and would-be influencer Daisy Midgeley. He was angered when Daisy used photos of herself with Bertie to boost her social media profile, which led to her receiving free clothes for the toddler from a clothing company who assumed she was the child’s mother - an assumption she didn't correct. Daisy apologised and they continued with their relationship. The following October, Daisy had reservations when Bertie called her "mummy", but Daniel considered it appropriate. That same month, Daniel and Daisy agreed that they should all live together as a family, but due to a misunderstanding they were left with no option but to live as guests of the Barlows at 1 Coronation Street for ten months.

In 2023, Daniel started work as a teacher at the Greenford Secure Training Centre and hired Gemma Winter to mind Bertie regularly, even though she wasn't a registered childminder. The arrangement continued for six months until Bertie swallowed one of Gemma's anti-depressants, leading Beth to report Gemma to social services and Daniel to make other arrangements for Bertie.
