Herbert Harrison "Bert" Tilsley was a Manchester United and Mantovani fan. In January 1982, after being unemployed for nearly two years, Bert got a job as a fitter at Longshaw's Foundary on Bessemer Street. In July 1983, Bert was injured in a compressor accident at Brian's garage. He spent two days in a state of unconsciousness, and when he came home, he realised that he was an invalid. At the end of that month, he disappeared and was found a week later dazed and confused in Bristol, where it was found he had a nervous breakdown and he was admitted to hospital. He would never leave and wasn't seen on the Street again. Bert died in hospital in January 1984.
