Benny Young (born "Robert Young" on 8th August 1949 in Glasgow) appeared on Coronation Street in two roles: firstly in March 1986 as David Atherton, a love interest of Gloria Todd; and he returned to the programme intermittently between November 1995 and November 1996 as Brian Dunkley, brother-in-law and lover of Denise Osbourne.

He trained at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama.

His other television credits include roles in Sutherland's Law, Square Miles of Murder, Maggie, The Gentle Touch, The Bill, Boon, Tell Tale Hearts, Castles, Taggart, Talk to Me, Waking the Dead, Still Game, Shetland and Good Omens.

Film roles include Nosey Dobson, Chariots of Fire, The Girl in the Picture, White Nights, Out of Africa, Captive, Funny Man, Outlaw/King and Wild Rose.

On stage, he appeared in productions of The General from America, Henry V and Richard III for the Royal Shakespeare Company and Flight, Battle Royal, Albert Speer, Romeo and Juliet, Peer Gynt and The Playboy of the Western World for the National Theatre. Other works include The Government Inspector, Troilus and Cressida, Billy Liar, Philoctetes, Blood Wedding, Hobson's Choice, Phedre, The Demon Barber, The Grapes of Wrath, Be Near Me, The Wheel, Moonlight and Magnolias, Macbeth, The Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui and Aladdin.
