Barrie Cookson (born 28th March 1922 in New Zealand, died 9th January 2005 in Richmond, Surrey) appeared in Coronation Street as two separate characters: University lecturer Mr Collingwood in June 1961, and he returned to the programme between April and May 1977 as Greenvale Hotel manager Ted Brownlow, who had a short-term relationship with Elsie Howard.
His other credits include roles in Spy-Catcher, Dixon of Dock Green, City '68, Doomwatch, Crown Court, Upstairs, Downstairs, The Sweeney, Danger UXB, The Onedin Line, Minder, Emmerdale, Bergerac, Dempsey and Makepiece, Poirot and Grange Hill, along with a role in the 1971 film A Clockwork Orange.
On stage, he appeared in productions of The Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui, The Man Who Stayed At Home, The Chairman, Dracula and The Secret Life.
