Barcelona is a city on the coast of Spain, and the capital of Catalonia. It has a population of 1.6 million.
In November 1997, having had enough of his family's antics, the latest being his father Jim wrecking Fiona Middleton and Alan McKenna's wedding day, Andy McDonald left Weatherfield behind to start a new life in Barcelona. He resides there to this day.
In June 2003, Dev Alahan attempted to surprise Sunita Parekh with a weekend in Barcelona. She wasn't impressed however, telling him she couldn't be bought - although she did love Dev, her frostiness was down to fear of being hurt.
Karl Munro booked a honeymoon for he and his wife-to-be Stella Price in September 2013, using money he'd borrowed from mate Tez Wyatt. He hid his true motivations - earlier in the year he'd started a fire at the Rovers Return which killed Toni Griffiths, murdered Sunita Alahan in her hospital bed after she witnessed him light it and groomed teenager Craig Tinker into thinking he was the perpetrator. The fact Jason Grimshaw was closing in on exposing his guilt was the real reason he was eager to get away. His crimes were exposed on his wedding day and the honeymoon never took place.
Another Barcelona holiday that never materialised was one planned by Summer Spellman and Aaron Sandford in August 2022. A diabetic, Summer had been skipping her insulin injections and collapsed on the day of the scheduled flight, which the pair missed.
