Barbados is a Caribbean island.
Newly-weds Mike and Susan Baldwin chose the island as their honeymoon destination following their marriage in May 1986.
Dev Alahan surprised Geena Gregory with a three-week holiday in Barbados in May 2001. Maria Sutherland and Vikram Desai also went there for a few days in December 2002, however the reason behind Vik taking Maria there was far from romantic - not only did he steal the £2,000 from his partly-owned business, Street Cars, to fund the holiday, he stashed drugs in Maria's suitcase in order to sell them when back home to pay off his crippling gambling debts. Maria was oblivious to this, but when the pair were back in Weatherfield she accused Vik of ignoring him all holiday and finished with him.
Lewis Archer left Weatherfield for Barbados permanently in August 2010, as did Becky McDonald in February 2012 in order to start a new life with boyfriend Danny Stratton and his son Billy.
In July 2014, Becky's sister Kylie Platt, along with husband David and children Max Turner and Lily Platt visited Becky in Barbados. Becky was managing a bar at this point. The trip was marred by Max's extremely difficult behaviour which was later attributed to ADHD.
Kylie and David opted to join Becky in Barbados with the children in July 2016 and planned to get everything in order so they could immigrate, however Kylie was stabbed to death before the move could take place. Newly-widowed David opted to stay in Weatherfield with the kids. The family visited again in August 2018.
