The unnamed Band Leader conducted a small Salvation Army brass band in Coronation Street one Sunday morning in January 1965.
Immediately before commencing their repertoire, the leader supped a pint in the Rovers where Albert Tatlock and Charlie Moffitt gave him their requests, including Over the Waves although he had grave doubts about the ability of the group he was conducting to play such pieces.
Once they began, it was with the traditional All Things Bright and Beautiful but they were soon interrupted when a fight between Ena Sharples and Elsie Tanner erupted from the pub over Ena's attempt to evict Elsie from No.11 after she had inherited it from its previous owner, the recently deceased Mrs. Briggs. Once the altercation, which at one point turned violent, was over the band marched away to their favoured processional Onward, Christian Soldiers.
