Ayub Khan-Din (born 11th June 1961 in Salford) appeared on Coronation Street intermittently between June 1992 and December 1993 as clothing businessman, Hanif Ruparell.
He studied Drama at the Salford College of Technology and Acting at Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts, graduating in 1984.
His other television credits include roles in The Bill, Shalom Salaam, Idiot, The Chief, Staying Alive and London Bridge.
Film roles include My Beautiful Laundrette, Sammy and Rosie Get Laid, Young Toscanini, Lebewohl, Fremde, The Burning Season and Magic Mike's Last Dance.
On stage, he appeared in productions of The Traitor and Tartuffe.
He began writing hugely successful plays in the late 1990s with his first production, East is East, being nominated for Laurence Olivier Theatre Award for Best New Comedy in 1998. He adapted the play into a film script the following year and won several awards for his work. He followed up this success with Rafta, Rafta..., Last Dance at Dum Dum, The Edelweiss Pirates and West is West.
