Austria is a republic in the southern part of Central Europe. It is composed of nine federated states, one of which is Vienna, Austria's capital and its largest city. Austria occupies an area of 32,386 sq mi and has a population of nearly 9 million people.

Mike Baldwin had placed his son Mark Redman in the expensive Oakhill School which in January 1994 organised a skiing trip to the country. Mike was happy to pay the expensive costs but his wife Alma was unhappy at the exorbitant sum involved and the two had hard words. Mark overheard them and changed his mind about wanting to go on the trip.
