Arthur Grimshaw was the father of Elsie and Fay Grimshaw. He was married to Alice, and had a difficult and possibly abusive relationship with his daughters. He was killed during the Blitz alongside his wife and seven of his children when the family home of 18 Gas Street was bombed by the Luftwaffe in the Second World War.

In 1977, Elsie claimed that Arthur used to clean the chimney by tying a brick to a piece of rope and dropping it down the chimney. Elsie's lodgers Gail Potter and Suzie Birchall tried this trick to clear Elsie's chimney - however they brought all the soot down in Stan and Hilda Ogden's back room.

References to Arthur's relationship with Elsie were hinted at in "Coronation Street at War" by Daran Little.
