Archie was a fat, jovial drinker in the Rovers who, along with his younger mate Les, wound up Hilda Ogden about Annie Walker's reaction to the dust created in the pub by the demolition of Elliston's Raincoat Factory and the work that would ensue for her. Hilda didn't believe them but Les swore on his grandad's life, with Archie laughingly pointing out that the old man had been buried last September. At Hilda's request, Jack Walker confirmed that his wife was on the warpath and his statement was proved a moment later when Annie thundered into the public.
