Ann McManus held several scripting positions on Coronation Street from January 1996 to September 1998. They were initially a storyliner (then termed a "story associate") for 182 episodes, then variously a story editor for 97 episodes including 20 episodes in the unique role at that time of deputy story editor to Paul Marquess, the similarly unique role of story/script editor for 184 episodes and finally the role of just script editor for another 20 episodes.

After leaving the programme, she continued her association with Brian Park and former Coronation Street writer Maureen Chadwick in setting up the company Shed Productions which created and scripted many popular series including Bad Girls, Footballers' Wives and Waterloo Road.
