Anglia Television first went on the air on 27th October 1959 covering the East Anglia region of England and its surrounding areas. In 2000 the station was purchased by Granada Television and in 2004, following the merger with Carlton Television became part of ITV plc. The station carried Coronation Street from its very first episode in 1960 and, after beginning colour transmissions on 1st October 1970, started broadcasts of the programme in that medium from Episode 1013 onwards although it was quickly affected by the ITV Colour Strike which began just six weeks afterwards

The station continues to transmit Coronation Street to this day.
