Andy "Mitch" Mitchell was a taxi driver who Todd Grimshaw used to bring him back home after staying all night out with a date. On his return, Todd asked his mother Eileen to lend him the fare and the transaction was taking place when her lodger Sean Tully left the house in the company of his latest boyfriend, dentist Laurence Reeves. Mitch immediately recognised Laurence and told Eileen and Todd to pass the message on to Sean that he should watch his back.

This sinister advice exacerbated suspicions Todd had held for several months about the dentist after finding out that he used to be married and that his wife Lindsey died in mysterious circumstances whilst on a hiking holiday in Switzerland. He passed the warning on to Sean who in turn spoke with Laurence, who denied ever knowing Mitch. Eileen did some further digging and on a social media page for Laurence’s rambling club found a photograph of him and his wife in the company of Mitch. With some difficulty she and Todd found Mitch after booking numerous cabs in order to get further details from him. Mitch confessed that he had had an affair with Lawrence while he was still married, and the dentist was terrified that his wife would find out, and out him to the rest of his family.

The two informed Sean who at first expressed full confidence in his boyfriend but when Laurence booked the two of them a holiday in the Alps and asked Sean if he can be put down as his next of kin on the travel documents, he felt deep unease. He confessed his fears to Laurence who told him the true circumstances of Lindsey’s death where she slipped while walking alone and finished with him for thinking him capable of murder.

Credited as "Mitch", the character gave his full name in his second appearance.
