Amelia Elliott (née Cartwright) was the daughter of Bernard and Alice Cartwright, wife to William Elliott and mother of Fred Elliott and Beryl Elliott.
Amelia was born in 1896 in Cartwright Street where she lived with her parents and two brothers. When Amelia was still young her father discovered that her mother had been having an affair. In a fit of rage he murdered both his wife and her lover and was later hanged for the crime. The street was later renamed Victoria Street, in order to rid the memories of the murders.
In the 1930s, Amelia met William Elliott and they married. The pair had two children, Fred and Beryl.
Both Amelia and William passed away sometime prior to 1994, the year their son Fred arrived in Coronation Street - a neighbouring street to Victoria Street. In March 2000, he confronted Ken Barlow who was researching the murders of Fred's grandmother and her lover. Wanting his family's dark history to stay buried, Fred threatened Ken with legal action unless he stopped his pursuit of knowledge.
