Allan Surtees (born "Allan Joseph Dobby" on 31st December 1924 in Liverpool, died 1st November 2000 in Southwark, London) appeared on Coronation Street between November and December 1981 as councillor Ben Critchley, who effectively brought an end to the marriage of Fred and Eunice Gee.
He was also a regular cast member in 23 of the 26 episodes of the 1980s Street spin-off The Brothers McGregor as nightclub owner Colwyn Stanley.
His other television credits included roles in Z Cars, Softly Softly: Task Force, Bill Brand, Rosie, The Professionals, The Spoils of War (written by John Finch), The Chinese Detective, Miracles Take Longer, Boon, Vanity Fair, The Bill, Brookside, Nice Town, Casualty and Peak Practice.
Film roles included Frankenstein Must Be Destroyed, The Adding Machine, The Reckoning, Black Island, Eye of the Needle, The First Kangaroos, Murder on Line One and Erik the Viking.
On stage, he appeared in productions of The Real Inspector Hound, Serjeant Musgrave's Dance and The Handyman.
