Aled Winter-Brown is the son of Chesney and Gemma Winter-Brown, one of a set of quadruplets along with Bryn, Carys and Llio. He is also the half-brother of Joseph Brown. Born deaf, Aled lives with a cochlear implant.

Biography[]

Aled was the first of the quadruplets to be born, arriving when Gemma and Chesney were suspended mid-air in a cable car in Llandudno in October 2019. He was named after Aled Ifans, one of the paramedics who aided Gemma when she was in labour. His name was also chosen as a reference to the singer Aled Jones who performed the song Walking in the Air, alluding to the circumstances of Aled's birth.

In December 2019, the quads were discharged from hospital. Soon afterwards, they were used in a marketing campaign with their parents for the supermarket Freshco, becoming known as the "Freshco Four". However, their contract was terminated when Chesney protested the campaign's heavy manipulation.

In February 2020, Aled was diagnosed with profound deafness. In September 2021, he was scheduled to receive a cochlear implant operation to provide him with some hearing ability, although family friend Freda Burgess, who was also deaf, feared that it would cause him to lose his identity, especially when Aled's grandmother Bernie Winter made insensitive comments about him becoming "normal" and no longer needing to learn sign language. An upset Freda locked herself and Aled in the Victoria Street Community Centre and ignoring Gemma's pleas, didn’t let him out until he had missed the operation. However, two months later it successfully went ahead.

Background information[]

Aled was born onscreen in October 2019 but was played by a prosthetic baby for his first few appearances due to his premature birth. From December 2019 to February 2020, he was played by twins Charlotte & James Holt and triplets Arthur, Lily & Lucy Taylor, all of whom also played the character's quadruplet siblings Bryn, Carys and Llio. The role was taken over by twins Harry & Harvey Thompson from February to April 2020 while the original five actors continued to appear as the other quads, although shortly after the new twins' debut, there was a brief overlap where some of the original actors appeared as Aled in some scenes.

The character was then absent until June 2021 due to restrictions imposed on child actors in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. Since then, Aled has been played by deaf child actor Joseph Woods.
