Ainsdale Beach is located between Southport and Formby, and is the only beach in the North West to have been awarded a Blue Flag. The beach also holds a Quality Coast Award which ensures clean water and plenty of facilities.
Tony Gordon and a heavily-pregnant Maria Connor visited the beach with her dog Ozzy in July 2009 in the hope that a long walk would bring on labour as she was already overdue. While there, Maria began experiencing strong contractions and unable to make it back to the car, Tony carried her over to a rundown shack on the north side of the dunes where he phoned for an ambulance. With assistance from Tony, a healthy baby boy was delivered prior to the arrival of a paramedic and following an initial assessment, mother and baby were swiftly transported to Weatherfield General.
