Agnes Greenwood was the wife of Oakenshaw Park keeper George Greenwood. The couple had two grown-up children, Lizzie and Ronald and lived in Stanley Street.

Agnes was well aware that she wasn't the only woman in George's life. He had dalliances with several of the women who came into his park, especially during Winter during George's quiet period, which though entirely platonic made George feel tremendously guilty. The telltale sign that George had been with another woman was that he'd surprise Agnes with whipped cream walnuts.

On one such occasion, when Agnes arrived at George's work shed after visiting her ailing aunt, she spotted a mystery woman's scarf after receiving the walnuts. The scarf belonged to Hilda Ogden, who was seeing George behind Stan's back. The next day, Agnes followed Hilda home from the park to Coronation Street and, once the coast was clear, dropped by Stan to inform him what his wife was up to. Stan refused to believe it until Agnes produced the scarf as evidence. Agnes advised Stan to milk Hilda's guilt, as she did with George. Stan did so but this only made Hilda feel worse, leading her to write a note confessing to Stan. A further complication arose when Hilda learned about Agnes visiting Stan however, not knowing the identity of the woman, she assumed that her absence had driven Stan into another woman's arms, and told George she couldn't see him anymore.

Three years later, George and Hilda met again when George judged flowers and veg at the Community Centre flower show. George told Hilda that Agnes had died a couple of years ago.
