Agatha "Aggie" Bailey was the wife of Ed Bailey and mother of Michael, Dee-Dee and James.

Before marrying Ed, Aggie had a prior relationship with his brother, Ronnie. The Baileys moved to Coronation Street in 2019 after downsizing from their previous home in Alderley Edge due to financial issues caused by Ed's gambling addiction. A former nurse, Aggie had left the profession when a patient died on her watch and, while not to blame, she couldn't cope with the sense of guilt. After a spell at Roy's Rolls, she returned to nursing in 2020.

Aggie nominally lives at No.3 with Ed, Michael, and her granddaughter Glory, but also acting as a carer for her Auntie Marcelle, she spent several months in Birmingham from August 2023 onwards. In 2024, Michael informed her that Ed had returned to gambling, causing Aggie to finish with him.

Background information[]

Lorna Laidlaw has taken several substantial breaks from the show. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Aggie was not seen on-screen in person between 13th July and 2nd November 2020. She appeared in two episodes during that time on 29th and 31st July over video call with the in universe being given that Aggie had been forced to shield at a hotel due to one of her co-workers testing positive for COVID. Despite returning to filming in November, Lorna would again commit to video-only appearances between 19th February 2021 and 30th June 2021 during which she appeared in a total of six episodes. Her frequent absences meant that Aggie's involvement in certain storylines had to be drastically edited. Lorna's longest break came in 2023 where she has been absent from 12th June onwards. Both of the latter two absences were explained on-screen by Aggie heading to Birmingham to look after her poorly Auntie Marcelle.
