The house in 2012
37 Hillside Crescent was a semi-detached property in Weatherfield where Betty Williams lived from 1970 until her death in 2012.
Betty and her husband Cyril Turpin bought the house in 1970 after he resigned from the police force and took a job as a solicitor's office clerk. Betty was left her own at the property following Cyril's sudden death in 1974, although her Rovers Return work colleague and friend Bet Lynch briefly stayed with her in April 1980 and between June and August 1986, and self-employed electrician Alec Hobson lodged with her in early 1982. Betty's wartime sweetheart Billy Williams moved in with her in 1995 after they married, although Betty was left on her own again following his death two years later.
Betty passed away peacefully in her home in April 2012. Her friends Stella Price, Rita Sullivan and Emily Bishop helped her son Gordon pack up her things and reminisce about the good times.
