June - Sam Burgess is killed at Dunkirk. His widow Alice leavesWeatherfield for a new life in the countryside.
29th June - Brendan Scott is born.
23rd July - Audrey Potter is born.
22nd December - Sidney Hayes is killed when caught in an air raid in Gas Street, Marjorie Barlow is also killed when a brick wall falls on her while she and Albert Tatlock rescue Ken and Ida Barlow. The department store where she worked, Baxendale's, burns down in the same air-raid.
