19th April - Christine Hardman is born to George and May Hardman.
20th July - Alan Bradley is born.
3rd September - Sam Burgess marries Alice Hewitt. Their wedding reception at the Rovers is interrupted by Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain's radio broadcast declaring war on Germany, marking the beginning of World War II.
4th September - Albert Tatlock gets a job as a clerk at the Town Hall. The pupils at Bessie Street School, including Beattie Tatlock, are evacuated to Blackpool. Sam Burgess signs up for the army.
4th October - Arnold Tanner marries Elsie Grimshaw. The couple moves into 11 Coronation Street.
9th October - Kenneth Barlow is born.
