George and Nancy Leathers are married.
Charlie Corbishley is wounded at the Battle of the Somme and dies in hospital. Ralph Makepiece is also killed in the battle.
Vic and Robert Piggott, also fighting in the war, are killed when their dugout is hit by a bomb.
Alfie Marsh abandons his common-law wife Mo and takes up with Rovers barmaid Sarah Bridges. Mo finds out that her husband is a bigamist and throws herself into the canal.
Sidney Hayes is sent before a tribunal for refusing to sign up to the army. He is sent to prison for the duration of the war.
Fred Hayes dies from diphtheria.
June - Alice Buck gives birth to a son, Ben. Alice's dad Ned throws them out of the house as Alice is unmarried.
9th December - Leonard Swindley is born.
16th December - Ida Leathers is born.
