4th August - The First World War breaks out. Albert Tatlock and his friends Dinky Low and Clarrie Ross join the Lancashire Fusiliers as soon as the war is declared, train at Bury and leave in late 1915 for France.
25th October - After the outbreak of the war, Cedric and Lottie Thwaite are attacked and injured by their neighbours because Lottie is German.
Bessie Vickery becomes a housemaid at Mr. Thatcher's residence in Bury following the death of her aunt.
