- Rosamund Street is built in Weatherfield. It is named after singer Mabel Grimshaw, who used the stage name Rosa Hanbury. Grimshaw is the mistress of Sir Humphrey Swinton, owner of much of the land in the area.
- Construction of the terraces of Coronation Street, initially planned to be named Albert Street, begins. The Street is partially designed to house the workers at Hardcastle's Mill.
- Alfie Marsh marries Sybil.
- 30th January - Effie Spicer is born.
- 26th April - Jack Walker is born.
- 30th September - Minnie Carlton (later Caldwell) is born.
